Two men from different generations, economic classes, and American political and religious cultures find their lives unexpectedly intertwined when the elder man’s 16-year-old daughter becomes pregnant. A moral conflict develops between the two men over decisions and actions each believes to be best for the teenager, leading to disastrous outcomes for both men, costing each the things most dear to him.
